Thailand Eyeing Investment Opportunities in Cambodia’s Booming Logistics Sector

Thailand is exploring investment opportunities in Cambodia’s logistics sector, as the two countries seek to strengthen cooperation in this area. At a meeting on 19 April 2023.between HE Sun Chanthol, Cambodia’s Minister of Public Works and Transport, and Mr. Supachai Verapuchong, CEO of Logistics Intelligence Cambodia Co., Ltd, the Thai delegation expressed its desire to expand investment cooperation in the logistics sector in Cambodia.

Mr. Supachai Verapuchong stated that the meeting focused on working discussions and plans to develop the logistics sector in Cambodia, as well as to study the possibility of finding investment opportunities in this sector with the Ministry of Public Works.

In response, HE Sun Chanthol highlighted that the development of the logistics sector is a top priority of the Cambodian government, with more than 300 projects worth about $50 billion incorporated into the logistics master plan for implementation over the next decade, positioning Cambodia as a regional logistics hub.

Furthermore, HE Sun Chanthol revealed that the Phnom Penh-Poipet railway project is being studied for an upgrade to a high-speed railway, and the Cambodian government is urging the Ministry to cooperate with the Ministry of Economy and Finance to find investment partners to accelerate the work.

The meeting coincided with the signing of the Financial Advisory Service Agreement between the Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the International Finance Corporation for the feasibility study of the Sihanoukville Logistics Complex, one of the two priority logistics centers to be developed in Cambodia.

The potential for investment cooperation between Cambodia and Thailand in the logistics sector is bright, and it is hoped that this partnership will yield fruitful results for both countries in the near future. (Read more)
