Majestic 45-Metre-Tall Buddha Statue Soars as Construction Commences in Kep Province

The construction of the awe-inspiring 45-metre-tall “Buddha of Forgiveness” has commenced in Kep province. The groundbreaking event was presided over by Samdech Men Sam An, Personal Adviser to the King of the Kingdom of Cambodia which was held on 9 January 2024, marked the initiation of this monumental project, situated in Kep village, Sangkat Kep, Kep city.

The Buddha statue, set atop a mountain formerly inhabited by a Chinese monk from the Kep Provincial Vipassana Centre, stands as a symbol of cultural and Buddhist heritage preservation in the region. The visionary project, named Kep Vipassana Centre, goes beyond the towering Buddha statue, encompassing various structures that will contribute to the spiritual and cultural richness of Kep.

Among the notable structures planned for construction are a grand 6-metre-wide entrance gate, a 7-metre-wide road, a Vipassana school measuring 22 by 35 metres, and two towering pavilions, each soaring to a height of 60 storeys. The inclusion of a staircase further adds to the architectural grandeur of the site.

The significance of this project extends beyond its cultural and religious dimensions, as it aspires to transform into a pivotal tourist attraction in Kep province. Envisioned as a haven for Buddhists and a captivating resort destination, the Kep Vipassana Centre is poised to draw visitors seeking spiritual solace and cultural exploration. (Read more)
