Gov’t Pledges to Finish Master Plan for Sihanoukville SEZ by Mid-2023

The Cambodian government has announced its commitment to complete the master plan for Sihanoukville’s multi-purpose special economic zone (SEZ) by mid-2023.

The inter-ministerial working group met to discuss the draft report of the second phase of the “Master Plan,” which includes 1. Economic development, industry, and industrial land management, 2. Labor market and vocational training, 3. Special economic zone development model, 4. Public facilities, 5. Transportation and infrastructure, 6. Tourism and Biodiversity, 7. Living and well-being, 8. Urban design, 9. Land use management, 10. Green Belt Management, 11. Institutional framework, and 12. Action plan report.

Prepared by the Urban Planning and Design Institute of Shenzhen (UPDIS), the second phase of the master plan is expected to be comprehensive and clear. The first phase was submitted to the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee for Planning on March 30, 2022, after the Prime Minister authorized the official signing of a contract with the Institute on October 18, 2021.

The government’s initiative aims to develop Sihanoukville into a multi-purpose SEZ, and completing the master plan will be a significant milestone towards achieving this goal. (Read more)
