Transformative 2km Dang Kambit Reservoir Project Breaks Ground to Bolster Agriculture in Kampong Thom Province

A momentous occasion unfolded as the groundbreaking ceremony for the Dang Kambit Reservoir Development Project took place in Sre Khsach village, Dang Kambit commune, Sandan district, Kampong Thom province. Presided over by HE Tho Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology (MoWRM), on 1 February 2024, this project marks a significant step toward advancing agricultural sustainability and water resource management in the region.

Addressing the attendees, Minister Tho Chetha highlighted the project’s pivotal role in ensuring a stable water supply for agricultural irrigation, thereby enhancing food production and catering to the daily water needs of both residents and the agricultural industry.

The MoWRM outlined a 48-month construction timeline, commencing on 4 December 2023. The dam spans a total of 2,680 metres; measuring 1,136 metres on the left bank, 306 metres on the diversion, with 50 metres of concrete, and measuring 1,188 metres on the right bank and reaching an elevation of 40 metres above sea level.

Upon completion, an estimated 25,000 farmers, equivalent to 85,300 individuals in Baray, Sandan, Santuk, Stong, Kampong Svay, and Prasat Sambo districts in Kampong Thom province, are poised to benefit from the reservoir’s development.

Crucially, this project is being realised through concessional financing from the Export-Import Bank of China (EXIMBANK), facilitated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance. Recognised as a priority project in the Financial Law for 2023 management, the Dang Kambit Reservoir Project is set to play a transformative role in the province’s agricultural landscape.
