Kampong Cham’s New Landfill Project Achieves Over 80% Completion

The ambitious project to construct a large landfill in Kampong Cham has surpassed the 80% completion mark, with significant progress made over the past six months. Spanning an area of more than 8 hectares in Kampong Siem district, the facility includes standard waste processing and storage infrastructure. This milestone was confirmed during a site inspection by HE Un Chanda, Governor of Kampong Cham Provincial Board of Governors, on 4 July 2024.

During his visit, Governor Un Chanda emphasised the importance of educating residents on proper waste disposal and packaging practices to support the efficiency of waste collection services.

The project, covering a total area of 8.15 hectares, features a landfill occupying 1.3 hectares, along with extensive infrastructure including four wastewater treatment tanks, a 2,218-metre access road, a 1,244-metre concrete road within the facility, and a perimeter fence stretching 3,010.26 metres.

Additional constructions include a 3.5×2.5-metre guard post, a two-story office building and accommodation measuring 25×12 metres, a 40-tonne weighing area sized 19×6 metres, an MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) building measuring 35×26 metres, a workshop building of 31×10 metres, a temporary hazardous waste storage building of 15×12 metres, and a car wash facility measuring 31×3.5 metres.

Commenced on 5 January 2024, the project is slated for completion on 28 May 2025, with a total construction period of 17 months. (Read more)
