Three Sections of NR5 Expansion 90%, 23%, and 36% Complete, Respectively

To date, three sections of the National Road 5 (NR5) expansion project have on average reached approximately 50% completion and is scheduled to be complete by 2022.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport’s report on 16 February, the progress of each section of road are as follows:

1. The northern part from Battambang to Serey Sophoan (84 km) is 89.75% complete and scheduled for completion in July 2021

2. The central section from Thla Ma Om to Battambang (146 km) is 23.02% completed and scheduled for completion in April 2022

3. The southern part from Prek Kdam in Kandal province to Thla Ma Om in Pursat province (135 km) is 35.62% completed and scheduled for completion in August 2022

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwest part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
