Transport Minister, Japan Ambassador Inspect NR5 Construction to Ensure Quality

The Minister of Public Works and Transport, the Japan Ambassador to Cambodia, representatives of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), and the Japanese Technical Inspection firm this morning co-inspected the construction of site of NR5 renovation section fom Battambang to Banteay Meanchey, which is now almost 100% completed.

Minister of Public Works and Transport HE Sun Chanthol said that the co-inspection is to ensure that the works have been done following technical and safety standards road for long-term use.

“The NR5 Battambang-Banteay Meanchey section is not only built with high quality, but we also planted trees in the median and alongside the road for greenery and aesthetic purposes,” said the minister.

The construction of the NR5 Battambang-Banteay Meanchey section has a total length of 84.74 km.

Meanwhile, overall progress on NR5 is about 60% complete, with the southern part of Prek Kdam- Pursat at 46.05% and the central part Pursat-Battambang at 38.08%, (Read more)

The renovation of NR5 has a total length of 366km connecting the capital to the northwestern part of the country passing through Kompong Chhnang, Pursat, Battambang, and Banteay Meanchey provinces.

The road will be upgraded to Asphalt Concrete (AC) and expanded to four lanes with a width of 23m. The project is being undertaken with a loan of US$500 million from the Japanese government.
