Marking a profound investment in a cleaner and greener future, a cutting-edge solid waste landfill, valued at over US$1 million and spanning an expansive 4 hectares, has been entrusted to the stewardship of Svay Rieng Provincial Administration. The new facility was officially opened and handed over by HE Sao Sopheap, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, on 17 August 2023.

HE Seng Seila, Deputy Governor of Svay Rieng Province, underscored the paramount significance of this landfill in transforming the local environment into a harmonious amalgamation of aesthetics and eco-friendliness. Not merely a utilitarian venture, this landfill stands as a testament to a collective endeavor to eradicate unsightly littering and embrace responsible waste disposal practices. This shift necessitates harmonious collaboration between the populace, governing authorities, and waste management entities.

Beyond its environmental implications, the landfill’s advent ushers in a new era of economic opportunities for the community. As waste sorting personnel multiply to facilitate efficient landfill management, a dual benefit emerges. The urban landscape is poised to become an emblem of pristine cleanliness, while the augmented workforce heightens the region’s employment spectrum.

In an all-encompassing gesture, the Ministry of Environment has extended its support through the provision of vehicles, including cars and motorbikes, dedicated to transporting waste. This holistic approach signifies a commitment to bolstering every facet of waste management.

The landfill construction was inaugurated on 16 December 2022 by HE Chay Samith, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Environment, and relevant stakeholders. This development exemplifies Svay Rieng City’s dedication in embracing sustainable practices that not only enhance its aesthetic allure but also pave the way for a cleaner, greener, and brighter future.
