US-Based Corp VISA to Bolster E-Commerce and Digital Payments in Cambodia with Increased Investment

US-based corporation VISA has revealed plans to expand its investment and cooperation with Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce to promote e-commerce and digital payments in the country.

During a formal meeting with Minister of Commerce HE Sorasak Pan on 16 March, Chris Clark, executive vice president and regional president for Asia Pacific, announced the company’s intention to focus on current and future policy initiatives.

“Pandemic has created more opportunities to boost the digital landscape in Cambodia, especially digital payments and contactless payments. As Visa’s involvement in the field, electronic payments in Cambodia have made significant contributions to the Royal Government and other organizations to provide financial literacy training to Cambodians,” said HE Sorasak.

In 2022, the Cambodia Data eXchange (CamDX) project won the Future of Government Awards, beating 150 projects from 52 countries. This is another source of pride for Cambodia on the global stage and presents an open opportunity for digital technology and modernizing the country’s administration.

VISA’s increased investment and partnership with the Cambodian government are anticipated to accelerate the country’s digitalization efforts and improve access to financial services for its people.
