US Firm Wins Bid for Singapore’s Mass Transit Line

Giant US engineering firm Jacobs has won a bid to act as a design consultant on the construction of the Tavistock Station and tunnels linking it in the first phase of Singapore’s Cross Island mass transit (MRT) line.

The US$302 million contract is an integral part of the 29km underground line which will be Singapore’s largest and longest connecting all parts of the city.

The contract involves the design and construction of the underground station, bored tunnels, launching shaft for tunnel boring machines and associated building services.

Phase 1 comprises 12 stations, including Tavistock, and will serve residential and industrial areas in Loyang, Tampines, Pasir Ris and other parts of the city-state.

Construction on Tavistock Station already began in May 2022, while the Cross Island Phase 1 is expected to start in 2030.
