Ground is soon to be broken on the US$2 billion Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway. Work will begin soon after the installation of the concrete mix factory, and construction materials and machineries have been imported.

Work on this first expressway in Cambodia has been planned for more than a year and is now looking to begin soon, according to Cambodian investor H.E Oknha Mong Reththy.

With great excitement for the project, H.E Oknha Mong Reththy wrote on his Facebook page that “while looking at the road [Hun Sen Keo Phos Road], a glance to the left made me shocked because I saw that there are many pieces of brand-new construction equipment and machineries which will be used for the construction of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway”.

“And it seems that soon we will all be traveling safely for 90 minutes between Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville province,” he added.

In addition to the importation of the machineries, H.E Oknha Mong Reththy has recently inspected the installation of the concrete mix factory for the road construction which is located around the Hun Sen Keo Phos Road.

Meanwhile, H.E Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister, Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT), also recently said that the construction of the Phnom the Penh-Sihanoukville expressway using the loans from China will begin between February and March 2019.

Moreover, while the Cambodian government, through Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen, has urged the speeding up of commencement on this project, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia H.E Wang Wentian also pointed out that the recent ground breaking on the Ring Road No.3 will be a starting point for the expressway.
