Weather radar station to be built in Kampong Thom in 2021

A second weather radar station costing US$7 million will be built in Kampong Thom province in 2021 to advance forecasting of climate change and precipitation in Cambodia, according to an announcement by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology.

“The weather radar station will be built in cooperation between the government and the Asia Development Bank and be worth US$7 million,” said Chan Yutha, a spokesman at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology in a press conference held on 23 March at the Council of the Ministers.

Mr. Chan did not provide details on the specific location of the new weather radar station in Kampong Thom province. However, he revealed that the project will begin next year and include human resources training and equipping it with modern technical materials.

Cambodia currently has an existing weather radar station, named Techo Sen Weather Radar Station, located at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology in Phnom Penh.

The capital’s weather radar station cost US$7 million was officially opened in 2012 and towers 60m high.
