US$91 million Needed to Fix Flood-damaged Roads

The Cambodian government has estimated that approximately US$91 million is needed to repair over 3,000km of flood-damaged infrastructure. However, as of 24 November, the Ministry of Economy and Financed has approved only US$15 million for three prioritised provinces.

Ministry of Rural Development spokesman Chan Daron revealed this information during a press conference on the morning of 24 November.

“By estimation, we need approximately US$91 million to repair a total of 3,154km flood-damaged roads. However, we do not know where to get that from yet,” he said.

“So far, the Ministry of Economy and Finance has approved over US$15 million. At first, we select nine prioritised provinces, then down to three provinces first. These three include Banteay Meanchey (US$ 4.6 million), Pursat (US$4.6 million), and Battambang (US$3.3 million),” he added.

Moreover, the government spokesman vowed to repair the infrastructure before the next rainy season.
