Vietnam Starts Rail Freight to Europe

Vietnam Railways started a rail freight service from Hanoi to Belgium for the first time on 20 July through the Asia-Europe rail track, reported Vietnam News.

The freight train carried 23 containers with such goods as textiles, leather and footwear.

The train departed from Yen Vien station in Ha Noi to Zhenzhou city in China’s Henan province, and later connected to the Asia Europe train passing Kazakhstan, Russia, Belarus, Poland, Germany, before arriving in Belgium.

Deputy General Director of organising firm Ratraco Nguyễn Hoàng Thanh said that the successful freight service from Vietnam to Belgium will open up rail transport routes even deeper into Europe.

Ratraco and its European partner plan to organise eight trips per month departing from Vietnam, he said.

The entire journey is 25 days to 27 days
