Vietur Consortium Wins Bid to Construct US$1.5 Billion Long Thanh International Airport Terminal

The Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) has awarded the construction of the US$1.5 billion terminal at Long Thanh International Airport, located near Ho Chi Minh City, to the Vietur Consortium. This consortium, led by the seasoned Turkish contractor IC Içtas, boasts the participation of nine Vietnamese companies alongside IC Içtas itself. Notably, this selection follows a second tender process, as the initial round failed to secure any compliant bids for the construction of the expansive 372,000-square-meter terminal building.

Long Thanh International Airport will be strategically positioned in Dong Nai Province, approximately 40 kilometers east of Ho Chi Minh City. ACV has mobilized approximately US$6.1 billion to execute this ambitious project, with the expected construction cost for its initial phase estimated at US$4.1 billion.

This colossal undertaking will unfold in three phases, commanding a total investment of US$16 billion. In its first phase, the airport is poised to serve 25 million passengers annually, with projections of accommodating 50 million passengers in the second phase and a staggering 100 million passengers yearly upon completion of the third phase.

This mega-infrastructure project underscores Vietnam’s commitment to enhancing its aviation sector, positioning itself as a regional leader in air travel.
