WB to Help Upgrade Water Resource Infrastructure & Management in 6 Provinces

The World Bank has agreed to conduct a large-scale upgrade on water infrastructure in six target provinces in Cambodia next year, following a request from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology (MWRM) and the Ministry of Economy and Finance.

According to the request, the six target provinces include Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri, Stung Treng, Kratie, Kampong Cham and Kampong Thom.

MWRM’s Undersecretary of State HE Chan Sinath said during the progress meeting on 22 June that after accepting the request, the World Bank has also sent their team to Cambodia to speed up the preparation work.

Based on the plan, this project will start in June 2022, HE Sinath added.

Besides the main task, the Cambodian government has also requested the World Bank to help with other sectors such as promoting the water law implementation, a river basin improvement management plan, providing additional equipment for the existing water information centre, and strengthening groundwater management, among others.

The World Bank in response accepted all the equests.
