Kampong Chhnang’s New Multi-Purpose Port to Revolutionise Cambodia’s Waterway Logistics

Cambodia’s transport infrastructure took a major step forward with the construction of the new multi-purpose port and logistics centre in Kampong Chhnang province. With an investment ranging from US$300 million to US$500 million by KLP.T TRANSPORTATION Co., Ltd of Tycoon Try Pheap, the project set to revolutionise the country’s waterway logistics. 

HE Sun Chanthol, Minister of Public Works and Transport, recently inspected the construction site and expressed his appreciation for the project’s potential, saying “This port will be one of the largest and most potential shipping ports for export-import of goods and agricultural products from Kampong Chhnang to Pursat, Battambang, Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Thom, Preah Vihear to national and international markets as well.” 

The port’s strategic location in the centre of Cambodia will facilitate the distribution of goods to provinces, especially those adjacent to the Tonle Sap, to national and international markets, significantly reducing transportation costs and time.  

In addition, the port will support the establishment of a new economic pole based on “fish and rice” potential in the northwest region, as announced by Cambodia’s Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen. (Read more)

The multi-purpose port and logistics centre will cover an area of 100 hectares in Phnom Tepi, Keng Ta Sok village, Kampong Hav commune, Kampong Leng district, Kampong Chhnang province and was opened on 12 January 2023.  

The project will offer various services, including freight ports, oil storage centres, tourist resorts, and special economic zones. Moreover, the project is expected to create jobs for 1,000 to 1,500 local residents. 

With the completion of the Kampong Chhnang multi-purpose port and logistics centre, Cambodia’s transport infrastructure will enter a new era of waterway logistics, providing a more efficient and cost-effective method of transporting goods to national and international markets.
