World Bank Set to Loan Usd110 Million for National Highway No.4

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) is currently preparing the application for a USD110 million loan from the World Bank to upgrade National Road No. 4.

According to the official letter from the MPWT, the loan will fall under the Road Asset Management Project II (RAMP II). The loan will be used to upgrade the asphalt of National Road No. 4 to AC type, build an AC pavement and install a proper drainage pipe system along the road to prevent flooding during the rainy reason.

“National Road 4 is a very important road. It is the main line connecting Cambodia to the main port. So upgrading this route is a compulsory thing to do,” said MWPT Minister Sun Chanthol.

The final documentation is expected to be submitted to the World Bank in June this year and, pending approval, construction is planned to start in 2019.

The objective of the Road Asset Management Project II (RAMP II) is to improve the condition, safety and climate resilience of selected national road corridors in Cambodia. According to MPWT data, the Cambodian government spends nearly USD200 million every year to repair roads, with damage mainly cause by overloaded vehicles.
