Gov’t Approves Draft Law on Clean Water Management

The Council of Ministers has approved the draft law on clean water management, which will strengthen the management system and ensure the provision of clean water supply services in the country. 

The draft law was approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen on 13 January. 

The management and development of the water sector is an important basis for sustainably responding to the momentum of socio-economic development of Cambodia, which has been growing steadily from year to year. 

Water supply is one of the four priority areas in the Rectangular Strategy Phase 4, including people, roads, electricity, and water. 

In this regard, the water supply sector requires effective management to ensure the provision of quality, safe, sustainable, and affordable water supply services. 

A stable water supply service is also a key factor in increasing trust and attracting investment from the private sector to Cambodia. 

The draft law was initiated by the former head of the Ministry of Industry and Handicrafts in 2016 and has been discussed and revised with initial support from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).The Council of Ministers approved the draft law on clean water management, which will strengthen the management system and ensures the provision of clean water supply services in the country.
