Japan Extends Concessional Loan for Regional Hospital Development in Cambodia

In a significant gesture of bilateral cooperation, Japan has extended a concessional loan totalling JPY 21,104 million (approximately US$154 million) to Cambodia for the development of regional hospitals.

The formal exchange of notes and accompanying documents took place on 13 March, with HE Sok Chanda Sophea, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and HE Kumura Masahiro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, sealing the agreement at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

“The provision of this loan underscores Japan’s unwavering commitment to supporting the socio-economic development initiatives of the Cambodian government.” As articulated in the ministry’s press release, this financial assistance serves as a testament to Japan’s dedication to fostering enduring ties and close collaboration with Cambodia.

Notably, the relationship between the two nations was elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023, further solidifying their mutual commitment to shared prosperity and development.
