$66 Million University of Health Sciences Hospital Surpasses 50% Completion Mark

The construction of the new University of Health Sciences (UHS) hospital, a flagship healthcare infrastructure project valued at $66 million, has reached a significant milestone with work now nearly 53% complete. This progress was confirmed following a high-level site inspection led by Her Excellency Yok Sambath, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Health and Director of the UHS Hospital (Branch 3) construction project, on March 11, 2026.

Funded through a concessional loan from the Republic of Korea, the project represents a vital expansion of Cambodia’s medical education and public health capacity. During the visit, Her Excellency Yok Sambath commended the technical teams and contractors for their efficiency, noting that the building’s progress has actually surpassed the initial project timeline. The accelerated pace of construction reflects a dedicated effort to bring the facility into operation as soon as possible to serve both medical students and the general public.

In addition to celebrating the rapid advancement, the Secretary of State provided specific recommendations to the construction firms to ensure that the increased speed does not compromise the structural integrity or safety standards of the facility. She emphasized that maintaining high quality and adhering to strict safety protocols remain the top priorities as the project enters its subsequent phases.

Once completed, the UHS Hospital is expected to serve as a state-of-the-art hub for clinical training, providing medical students with essential hands-on experience while simultaneously offering high-quality healthcare services to the community. This initiative underscores the continued cooperation between Cambodia and South Korea in the fields of health and education, aiming to modernize the nation’s medical landscape for future generations.
