Thai Investors to Explore US$1bn Investment Prospects in Cambodia in March

In a strategic move set for early March, Thai investors are poised to delve into the examination of three prominent projects in Cambodia, collectively valued at approximately US$1 billion. The Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) disclosed this pivotal development on 17 February 2024.

The anticipation builds upon the Economic Diplomacy Forum on Cambodia, conducted under the new initiative “Business and Investment Opportunity.” Hosted by the Cambodian Embassy in Thailand at CW Tower, Bangkok, the forum featured insights shared by HE Suon Sophal, Deputy Secretary-General of the Cambodian Investment Committee. The focus was on acquainting Thai investors with Cambodia’s investment landscape, presenting flexible investment packages, and outlining incentives aligned with global economic trends. Notably, emphasis was placed on providing reliable investment maintenance services for investors.

The forum, a platform fostering economic diplomacy, addressed crucial topics to capture the interest of Thai investors. Key areas of discussion included (1) Cambodia’s political stability and economic growth, (2)  the conducive business environment for foreign direct investment, (3)  business opportunities within Cambodia, and (4)  an exploration of the legal aspects of investment, tax procedures, and the overview of the Double Taxation Agreement (DTA).

Building on the momentum generated at the Cambodia-Thailand Business Forum on 7 February, held during the official visit of the former Prime Minister, Thai investors are gearing up for a prospective visit to Cambodia. Scheduled for early March, this visit aims to conduct in-depth studies on three projects, collectively amounting to an investment capital of around US$1 billion.
