BYD to Construct Two Electric Vehicle Service Centres to Revolutionise Cambodia’s Automotive Landscape

BYD, a renowned automotive company is making substantial strides in Cambodia, with the construction of two service centers underway, firmly establishing the brand’s foothold in the nation.

This promising endeavor was discussed during a significant meeting between Cambodia’s Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, HE Sun Chanthol, and the Deputy Director-General of BYD Electric Vehicle Company on 20 October 2023. The talks highlighted BYD’s intent to expand its influence and offerings in the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister, in alignment with Cambodia’s vision of fostering sustainable transportation, encouraged BYD to take an active role in the installation of more electric vehicle charging stations throughout the country. This strategic move will greatly facilitate the growing usage of electric vehicles, further reducing Cambodia’s carbon footprint.

Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister proposed a feasibility study for the establishment of a car assembly factory within Cambodia. This visionary proposal reflects Cambodia’s youthful and highly productive population, with 65% of the country’s inhabitants being in this demographic. This assembly factory would not only cater to Cambodia’s needs but also serve as a production hub for the Greater Mekong Subregion.

In response, BYD is taking bold steps towards expanding its presence in Cambodia. In 2023, the company is actively constructing two service centers and two car showrooms. With the anticipation of a new car showroom in Siem Reap in 2024, BYD’s expansion is not only about vehicles but also about job creation. The expansion will result in the generation of 300 additional job opportunities for the Cambodian workforce.

Beyond the bricks and mortar of their business expansion, BYD Auto Industry is committing to installing 200 electric vehicle charging stations across various strategic locations in Cambodia by 2023. This effort is poised to form the cornerstone of Cambodia’s journey towards sustainable and eco-friendly urban mobility. (Read more)
