Cambodia and China Strengthen Ties to Boost Logistics Sector

In a significant step towards enhancing the logistics sector in Cambodia, the Ministry of Public Works and Transport announced a collaborative agreement with Zhejiang Seaport Logistics Group Co., LTD., a leading Chinese logistics firm. This partnership aims to develop and promote Cambodia’s logistics capabilities, marking a pivotal move for the country’s economic growth.

During a recent meeting, H.E. Peng PoNea, Minister of Public Works and Transport, emphasized the importance of exploring market potential and investment opportunities within the logistics sector. He underscored the need for collaboration between the government and private enterprises to foster further development in this critical area.

As part of this initiative, Minister Peng encouraged Zhejiang Seaport Logistics Group to leverage its technical expertise, offering support for human resource training and the promotion of logistics as a key industry in Cambodia. This support is essential for equipping local professionals with the skills needed to advance the sector.

The Ministry highlighted its commitment to aligning with the Royal Government of Cambodia’s ambitious vision to transform the nation into a middle-income country by 2030 and a high-income country by 2050. Central to this vision is the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Transport and Logistics System (2023-2033), which aims to enhance infrastructure, including roads, railways, expressways, and waterways, particularly focusing on logistics.

Further supporting this initiative, the National Council for Transport announced on February 20 that nearly 40 billion VND is being sought to finance 174 priority infrastructure projects outlined in the Comprehensive Master Plan on the Cambodian Intermodal Transport and Logistics System (2023-2033).

This strategic partnership between Cambodia and China is expected not only to improve the logistics sector but also to contribute significantly to the country’s broader economic development and connectivity within the region.
