Cambodia and China Strengthen Ties to Enhance Industrial Cooperation

In a significant move to bolster bilateral relations, Cambodia and China have committed to enhancing cooperation in production and supply chains. This strategic partnership aims to foster industrialization and stimulate economic, trade, and investment collaboration between the two nations.

The announcement followed the inaugural meeting of the Cambodia-China Investment and Economic Cooperation Working Group, co-chaired by His Excellency Chea Wutthy, Secretary-General of the Cambodia Investment Committee, and Mr. Ling Ji, Vice Minister of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China. This pivotal meeting was held under the Memorandum of Understanding signed in late 2021, marking a collaborative effort to advance the “Belt and Road” initiative and Cambodia’s Industrial Development Policy for 2015-2025.

Key topics discussed during the meeting included strategies to fortify production and supply chains, the implications of measures related to the origin of goods, and the challenges faced by Chinese investors. Furthermore, the two nations explored the initiative to create a special economic zone focused on Cambodian agricultural processing, alongside efforts to enhance domestic supply chains and strengthen industrial clusters.

Cambodia has experienced a surge in investment projects, recording 373 initiatives with a total investment of USD 5.8 billion in the first half of 2025—an impressive increase of 77% from previous years. Notably, China emerged as the leading source of investment, accounting for over 52% of the total capital influx. (Read more)
