Cambodia and Japan Sign Consultancy Agreement for Koh Ksach Tonlea Bridge Project in Kandal Province

The Ministry of Public Works and Transport and the Japanese consortium CHODAI Co., LTD have formally signed a consulting services agreement for the Koh Ksach Tonlea Bridge construction project in Kandal Province. The signing ceremony took place on May 8, 2026, under the high presidency of His Excellency Peng Ponea, Minister of Public Works and Transport. This collaboration underscores the continued partnership between Cambodia and Japan in developing the Kingdom’s transportation infrastructure.

Minister Peng Ponea stated that the project involves the construction of a bridge across the Bassac River, connecting the Koh Ksach Tonlea area in Koh Ksach Tonlea Commune, Sa’ang District, Kandal Province, to National Road 21. As a major economic artery, National Road 21 is critical for regional trade, and this new link will significantly enhance daily commuting and the transportation of goods for local residents. Furthermore, the bridge is expected to stimulate more active socio-economic development within the district.

The Koh Ksach Tonlea Bridge project features a bridge structure approximately 280 meters in length, complemented by an approach road spanning approximately 276 meters. This infrastructure is of vital importance for river crossing, providing a safe and efficient connection that will integrate the island-like region of Koh Ksach Tonlea with the mainland’s primary road network. By bridging this gap, the project aims to foster long-term growth and improve the overall quality of life for the people of Kandal Province.
