High-level meeting between Prime Minister Hun Manet and Ambassador Kim Chang Yong reinforces commitment to economic growth and regional security

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Republic of Korea have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across six priority sectors, aiming to elevate the relationship between the two nations to new heights. This pledge was formalized during a high-level meeting between Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and His Excellency Kim Chang Yong, the South Korean Ambassador to Cambodia, at the Peace Palace on March 17, 2026.

During the discussion, both leaders identified the economy, trade, investment, education, national defense, and security as the core pillars for future collaboration. The expansion of these sectors is seen as vital for the mutual prosperity of both countries, building upon the foundations of the strategic partnership that continues to evolve.

A significant portion of the dialogue was dedicated to reviewing the successful cooperation between the law enforcement agencies of both nations. Both parties expressed high praise for the fruitful results of joint efforts by the Cambodian and South Korean police forces in combating and suppressing online fraud and cybercrime. This collaboration is viewed as a critical component of the broader security framework, ensuring a safer digital and physical environment for citizens and businesses alike.

Prime Minister Hun Manet expressed his appreciation for South Korea’s continuous support and highlighted the potential for even greater synergy in industrial development and human resource training. Ambassador Kim Chang Yong echoed these sentiments, promising to facilitate further investment from major Korean firms and to support Cambodia’s socio-economic goals through technical and educational exchanges.

The meeting underscores a shared vision for a more integrated and secure regional landscape, driven by robust economic ties and a mutual interest in maintaining stability through defense and security cooperation. Both sides agreed to maintain active high-level exchanges to ensure the effective implementation of the agreed-upon initiatives across the designated priority areas.
