Cambodia Achieves First Airborne Export of Cashew Nuts to China’s Henan Market

In a milestone for Cambodia’s agricultural sector, the country successfully exported 2 tons of premium cashew nuts by air to Henan province, China, marking its first-ever cashew shipment to this key Chinese market. The initial consignment, exported on 22 September 2024, resulted from intensive cooperation between Cambodian and Chinese officials following meetings in July and August this year aimed at fostering trade in agricultural products between the two nations.

This achievement reflects Cambodia’s expanding role in the global cashew industry, with plans to make weekly air shipments to Henan now underway.

The export was made possible by a coordinated effort involving the Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce, and Ministry of Economy. Cambodian authorities adhered strictly to China’s rigorous safety, quality, and hygiene standards, ensuring that the local M23 variety cashews, known for their large size and superior taste, met all the necessary requirements.

Cambodia has seen a significant rise in cashew production, with over 830,000 tons produced in the first seven months of 2024 alone—a 36.7% increase compared to the previous year—making it the world’s second-largest cashew exporter. While exports to China are not new, this delivery is Cambodia’s first to Henan Province, opening up new trade avenues and further boosting the nation’s position in global agricultural markets.
