Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet officially inaugurated a new automotive assembly plant in Kampong Chhnang province on September 17, 2026, marking a major milestone in Cambodia’s industrial evolution. Developed under an investment package of nearly $20 million—totaling approximately $19.3 million—by TH Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd., the facility officially launched its dedicated production line for GAC-branded vehicles. During the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the facility reflects a strategic victory for the Royal Government in shifting Cambodia’s industrial sector from labor-intensive operations toward capital-, technology-, and skill-intensive manufacturing that generates new revenue streams and raises national value-added economic output.

Occupying an 11-hectare site strategically positioned along National Road 5 in Kampong Chhnang province, the facility is operated by TH Automotive Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of TH Group built entirely on 100% Cambodian capital. Holding exclusive distribution and assembly rights from GAC International, the plant produces GAC motor vehicles and is also structured to assemble CHEVROLET vehicles. Operating with a designed annual production capacity of approximately 20,000 vehicles, the assembly plant targets 90 percent of its total output toward satisfying domestic demand while dedicating 10 percent for regional export, creating roughly 250 skilled jobs for local citizens.

Government officials noted that the operational rollout signals Cambodia’s structural transition from a market reliant on fully built-up vehicle imports to a nation with domestic manufacturing and assembly capabilities. The growth of TH Automotive Manufacturing aligns directly with national policy goals to foster high-value-added production, accelerate workforce upskilling, and facilitate direct technology transfer from international partners. By establishing local assembly ecosystems, Cambodia continues to diversify its industrial foundation, strengthen domestic supply chains, and enhance its overall competitiveness within the regional automotive sector.
