Russian Manufacturing Giant GAZ Group Explores Investment and Local Assembly Opportunities in Cambodia

Russia’s largest automotive manufacturer, GAZ Group, is actively exploring market expansion and direct investment opportunities in Cambodia as the Kingdom accelerates its industrial diversification. The investment interest was highlighted during a high-level working meeting on August 17, 2026, between HE Hean Sahib, Secretary of State and Chairman of the Private Sector Development Working Group, and a delegation from the Cambodia-Russia Business Alliance led by Association President Tang Saingheng and Sergey Kuryshev, GAZ Group’s senior regional representative for Asia.

Highlighting the favorable business climate and expanding market demand in Cambodia, the delegation expressed strong interest in introducing their commercial vehicle portfolio to the domestic market. To demonstrate the company’s engineering standards and technological innovation, GAZ Group showcased two of its flagship commercial vehicles—the GAZELLE CITY and the GAZELLE NEXT CITILINE—directly at the ministry’s headquarters.

In response, HE Hean Sahib emphasized that the entry of a globally recognized Russian automotive brand comes at an opportunistic moment for Cambodia’s rapidly developing auto sector. The Kingdom currently hosts 13 active vehicle assembly and component manufacturing projects, reflecting growing momentum under national industrial policies aimed at positioning Cambodia as a regional manufacturing destination.

Boasting over 90 years of manufacturing history, GAZ Group stands as one of Russia’s top vehicle producers, exporting commercial trucks, buses, and specialized vehicles to 43 countries worldwide. Building on its successful regional footprint, which includes an established assembly facility in neighboring Vietnam, the Cambodian government encouraged GAZ Group to undertake feasibility studies toward setting up a local assembly line or auto parts production plant in the Kingdom to generate skilled employment opportunities for local technicians.
