Furthermore, they have unveiled plans to establish a new border crossing at Bavet, as confirmed during the third meeting of the Joint Coordinating Committee on June 08, 2023.

During the productive meeting, crucial aspects of the project implementation were discussed and evaluated, underscoring the progress made thus far, identifying key achievements, and charting the course for the subsequent stages leading to the project’s completion.

Deliberations encompassed a range of vital topics, including the formulation of policies and action plans, including:

  • the establishment of Logistics Green Logistics Policy, Cold Chain Policy, and Truck Modernization Policy
  • the establishment of a local logistics center, and
  • the monitoring and evaluation of the master plan for the Cambodian logistics system and Bavet border improvement.

The Bavet border checkpoint, a vital artery connecting Cambodia and Vietnam, received significant attention during the session. The working group dedicated efforts to addressing challenges and alleviating traffic congestion at the border crossing by enhancing the capacity and efficiency of officials during operational hours and upgrading infrastructure.

Moreover, discussions also centered around the feasibility study for the establishment of a new border checkpoint within Bavet City, reflecting a forward-thinking approach to bolstering cross-border trade and connectivity.

With the collaboration between Cambodia and Japan reaching new heights through the CLIP2 project and the vision for an expanded border crossing at Bavet, the nation is poised for remarkable advancements in logistics and trade facilitation. These initiatives are set to reinforce Cambodia’s position as a regional hub for commerce and connectivity, fueling economic growth and fostering fruitful partnerships with global stakeholders.

Simultaneously, Cambodia’s pursuit of comprehensive development extends beyond its collaboration with Japan, as the country actively engages with Korea in studying and formulating a comprehensive plan to enhance the international border infrastructure of Trapeang Sre, located in the province of Kratie.
