Cambodia’s Strategic Dong Kambit Reservoir Project Reaches 90% Completion Milestone in Kampong Thom

The construction of the Dong Kambit Reservoir, a cornerstone water management project in Kampong Thom province, has officially achieved approximately 90% completion. This progress was detailed following a comprehensive site inspection on March 27, 2026, led by His Excellency Chuon Bithol, Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology and Director of the Dong Kambit Reservoir Project.

Detailed assessments from the field reveal significant progress across all major technical components of the infrastructure. The left earthen embankment has reached 95% completion, while the right embankment is currently at 68%. Additionally, the construction of the critical spillway system stands at 69.15%. Notably, both the primary concrete dam structure and the specialized site for electricity-generating turbines have reached 100% completion, marking a major technical achievement for the project.

This multi-purpose reservoir is expected to serve as a vital lifeline for local agricultural communities by providing a reliable and sustainable water supply for irrigation and daily consumption. By securing water resources across the Kampong Thom geography, the initiative aims to increase crop yields and mitigate the impacts of seasonal flooding and drought.

Following the successful inspection, technical teams are currently preparing for the final phase of construction and system synchronization. The completion of the Dong Kambit Reservoir represents a significant step in the government’s long-term strategy to modernize rural infrastructure and ensure food and water security for thousands of families in the region.
