The Chinese government has helped Cambodia build 30 roads with a length of more than 3,000 kilometres throughout the country at a cost of nearly US$2 billion as of December, while others are under construction.

Speaking at the ground-breaking ceremony for NR41 on 26 December, Cambodia PM  Samdech Hun Sen said China is building three more roads at a cost of about US$500 million and nine major bridges that have been completed or are under construction.

PM Hun Sen spoke highly of China’s participation in building roads, bridges and other infrastructure such as canals and irrigation systems in Cambodia.

“The shared future of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Cambodia and China has established trust mutually, and in addition to providing grants, the Chinese friends have also provided concessional loans for the development of Cambodia,” the Prime Minister said.

The government will break ground on the construction of a bridge across the Mekong River in Kratie province on 2 January, and a project to build and upgrade the road from Skuon to Kampong Cham on 9 January.
