Construction of First Phase of Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant 60% Complete

The construction of the Bak Kheng Water Treatment Plant, Phase 1, is now 60% complete and is scheduled to be completed as planned, according to an announcement by the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority on 2 May.

The Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority said that by the first quarter of 2022, the first phase of the project with a production capacity of nearly 200,000 cubic meters per day is 60% complete.

The project is divided into three parts which include:

Part 1: Construction of water treatment plant 50% complete.

Part 2: Construction of Water Pumping Station 45% complete.

Part 3: Construction work on laying main pipelines is 50% complete.

Meanwhile, the construction of the second phase of the Bak Kheng water treatment plant, which has a production capacity of nearly 400,000 cubic meters per day, is now about 37% complete.

The project is a large investment project in the water supply sector in Phnom Penh and Takhmao by the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority. The project uses a total investment of US$190 million, which is co-financed by the French Development Agency, European Investment Bank, and Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority.

The project officially started construction on 5 May 2020.

According to the Phnom Penh Water Supply Authority, the construction of the plant will be accelerated according to the planned schedule, as well as the study of the master plan until 2030 to meet the demand for clean water in Phnom Penh and Takhmao town.
