Construction of Mekong River Bridge Linking Dei Edth and Thmor Kor Reaches Nearly Fifty Percent Completion

The construction of the strategic bridge spanning the Mekong River at the Dei Edth-Thmor Kor crossing has achieved significant momentum, with work now nearly halfway finished. Phorn Rim, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, confirmed on April 23, 2026, that the project has reached 47.6% completion as of April 22. This progress indicates that the development is currently moving 2.60 percent faster than originally projected in the master plan.

This vital infrastructure project was initiated during a joint groundbreaking ceremony for the bridge and the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway on June 7, 2023. The event was presided over by Samdech Techo Hun Sen, then Prime Minister and current President of the Senate, alongside former Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, Wang Wentian. The project is considered a cornerstone of the Kingdom’s regional connectivity strategy (read more).

Spanning the river in Kandal province, the bridge connects the western bank in Dei Edth commune of Kien Svay district to the eastern bank in Thmor Kor commune of Lvea Em district. Once completed, it will serve as a crucial link for local transport and long-distance logistics, easing the flow of traffic between these two growing administrative zones and providing a necessary bypass for the capital.

In terms of technical specifications, the total length of the project is 3,700 meters. This includes the main bridge structure, which measures 1,600 meters in length and 26 meters in width, as well as connecting roads totaling 2,100 meters with a matching width of 26 meters. The entire development is being funded by a $230 million investment from the national budget.

The construction is being executed by the China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC), with technical supervision provided by the Guangzhou Wanan Construction Supervision Co., Ltd. With an established construction timeframe of 37 months, the project continues to advance efficiently toward its goal of enhancing Cambodia’s national road network and supporting the nation’s economic growth.
