European Nations Unite to Boost Investment into Cambodia

A coalition of consuls general from nine European Union (EU) countries has committed to enhancing investment opportunities in Cambodia. The countries represented include Egypt, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Spain, and the United Kingdom. This collaborative effort was unveiled during a meeting with His Excellency Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, on February 5, 2025.

During the meeting, Mr. Salah Essa, speaking on behalf of the delegation, expressed enthusiasm for Cambodia’s rapid development, particularly in foreign investment. He noted the Royal Government’s keen focus on fostering trade and investment from the private sector, highlighting Cambodia’s significant potential. The consuls pledged to actively promote their respective countries as lucrative sources of investment, encouraging businesses to explore the advantages of investing in Cambodia.

In response, HE Sun Chanthol emphasized the remarkable surge in investment projects registered with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). He revealed that 414 investment projects were approved in 2024 alone, with an impressive 68 projects already sanctioned in early January 2025. This impressive statistic, he stated, reflects the effectiveness of the Investment Law and the supportive policies of the Royal Government, which views the private sector as a vital engine for national economic growth.
