Germany Commits to Boost Investment in Cambodia for Socio-Economic Development

In a significant move to enhance socio-economic development in Cambodia, the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ) has reaffirmed its commitment to support the Royal Government’s investment initiatives. This was highlighted during a meeting held on September 9, 2025, between the Senior Minister in Charge of Special Missions, HE Chiang Yanara, and Mr. Matthias Giegerich, Director General for Asia, the Pacific, Latin America, and the Caribbean at GIZ.

The primary focus of the meeting was to discuss the strategic direction of the ICONE Phase II project, which aims to bolster the competitiveness of enterprises in Cambodia. Additionally, both parties prepared for the upcoming Cambodia-Germany Development Cooperation Negotiations, scheduled for November 2025 in Phnom Penh.

During their discussions, HE Chiang Yanara emphasized Cambodia’s development goals and the strategic priorities set to facilitate the country’s graduation from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) category. Meanwhile, Mr. Giegerich reiterated Germany’s ongoing support and interest in fostering investment that aligns with the Royal Government’s socio-economic development agenda.

Notably, Cambodia has seen remarkable growth in investment activities this year. In the first eight months of 2025 alone, the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) registered 491 investment projects, totaling approximately USD 7.2 billion. This represents a significant increase of 204 projects, or 71%, and a rise in investment capital by roughly USD 2.5 billion, equating to a 50% boost compared to the same period in 2024. (Read more)
