H&M to Use Latest Textile Recycling Technology at Cambodian Factories

Swedish fashion retailer Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) is planning to use state-of-the-art textile technology to recycle and blend textiles at its factories in Cambodia.

Named Green Machine, it is cutting-edge and the world’s first technology that can recycle blend textiles at scale.

The technology is developed by the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel Limited (HKRITA) and the H&M Foundation, the firm said in a press release issued on 12 October.

A feasibility study is currently being launched to deploy the Green Machine in Cambodia by 2022. The Green Machine will contribute to a better future for the people of Cambodia and the planet.

“The company’s aim is to develop technologies and solutions that can have a positive impact on our planet, and the Green Machine is an excellent example of that,” said HKRITA Chief Executive Officer Edwin Keh.

The continuously growing demand for this solution will drive change and generate value for the entire fashion and textile industry, he added.

Besides having production factories in Cambodia, H&M has also recently announced the plan to open its first retail store in Cambodia next year.
