Technical experts from the Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) and the Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction (MLMUPC) held a joint meeting on Tuesday 13 July to review, inspect, and reexamine the architectural plan of the 38-road project in Siem Reap.

MPWT Secretary of State HE Yit Bonna said that the meeting mainly inspected work progress and the masterplan of several sub-projects such as sidewalk design and pavement, roadside decoration and lighting, as well as the arrangement of trees.

The meeting also discussed the challenges and solutions of the on-site construction team.

Earlier this month, MPWT also started renegotiating with construction companies regarding the cost of this project, even though the overall construction has been more than 63% completed. (Read more)

With a total length of 108km and estimated to consume a total budget of US$140 million, the Siem Reap 38-road project stretches across 12 districts of Siem Reap city and a part of Prasat Bakong and the 38 roads will be well-connected with other main road systems to ease traffic congestion and reduce accidents.

The government also decided to reallocate the remaining budget from Sihanoukville’s 34-road renovation project to upgrade the sidewalks along the Siem Reap River. Another separate US$9 million budget has also been reallocated to restore rainwater and sewage systems.
