Japan retailer Aeon to build international logistics hub in Sihanoukville

One of the largest Japanese retailor Aeon plans to build an international logistic centre in a special economic zone near the southern port of Sihanoukville to offer import storage, customs clearance. and support for cross-border online retail.

According to Nikkei Asia, the centre will be 30,000sqm and is expected to launch in 2023.

The project will include the establishment of Cambodia’s first bonded warehouse, which allow importers to store products from abroad without paying duties before they go through customs procedures.

Companies can leave large quantities of goods there for a certain period of time, gradually withdrawing them as needed and paying any applicable tariffs at that time.

This investment is part of Aeon’s plan to cultivate new profit sources as demand for such facilities is growing worldwide.

After Cambodia, Aeon is also looking to establish similar facilities in Indonesia and Malaysia as well.
