Cambodia’s Luong Mae Hospital has been officially inaugurated as a state-of-the-art national specialized cancer hospital in a ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet on September 16, 2026. The official launch marks a pivotal advancement in the Kingdom’s public health infrastructure, establishing a specialized medical center dedicated to cancer screening, early diagnosis, surgical intervention, and advanced oncology care. Speaking at the ceremony, Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized that the modernization of the hospital aligns directly with national health policy goals to strengthen healthcare quality, build specialized medical human resources, integrate cutting-edge technology, and expand services toward Universal Health Coverage.

Demonstrating its growing operational role in the national health system, the facility has delivered substantial medical services to the public. As of July 31, 2026, Luong Mae Hospital provided outpatient consultations to more than 230,000 individuals and admitted over 20,000 inpatient cases. During this period, medical specialists diagnosed 3,420 new cancer cases, administered over 5,000 doses of cervical cancer vaccines, and conducted more than 100,000 free cervical cancer screenings for women across the country.

The facility’s transformation reflects a major evolution in response to public health needs. Originally established as Nokor Tep Women’s Hospital on November 5, 2019, the institution initially focused on gynecological examinations and specialized women’s healthcare. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Royal Government purchased the facility to treat moderate and severe coronavirus patients, officially renaming it Luong Mae Hospital in 2021. Following the stabilization of the pandemic, the government transitioned the facility into a comprehensive national oncology hospital, undertaking extensive building renovations and equipping it with international-standard medical machinery.

To support specialized cancer therapies, the modernized institution has been equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment technology. Key medical installations include Linac linear accelerators for targeted radiation therapy, CT-Scan units, MRI systems, Brachytherapy equipment, Mammography machines, Angiography technology, and a full suite of specialized diagnostic tools. These technical upgrades enable local medical teams to provide accurate early detection and comprehensive cancer care, significantly reducing the need for citizens to seek costly treatments abroad.
