Malaysian Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Cambodian Rice Sector

A delegation from the Malaysian province of Kedah has expressed keen interest in studying the potential of Cambodia’s rice sector for export, addressing a pressing demand in its domestic market. The delegation met with officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries to explore collaborative opportunities, particularly in agriculture.

During a productive meeting with His Excellency Prak David, Secretary of State for the Ministry, Malaysian MP YB Haji Dzowahir bin Haji Ghani highlighted the urgency of enhancing Malaysia’s rice supply. The delegation aims to identify high-quality sources, emphasizing the benefits of Cambodia’s renowned fragrant rice.

His Excellency Prak David reassured the Malaysian representatives of Cambodia’s ability to cater to their market’s needs, citing the exceptional qualities of Cambodian rice. He extended an invitation for them to attend the upcoming CAFE25 program, which focuses on fostering investment in Cambodia’s agricultural sector and promoting agribusiness opportunities.

In recent months, Cambodia’s rice sector has shown promising results, recording exports of 387,070 tons worth approximately USD 283.41 million in the first half of 2025, reaching 63 destinations, including 26 European countries. The sector plays a vital role in strengthening food security and contributing to the country’s economy, which generated nearly 2 billion USD from rice exports in 2024. (Read more)
