Ministry of Environment Accelerates Development of “Te Teuk Pus” Natural Hot Springs into Green Destination in Kampong Speu

Led by Minister Eang Sophalleth, the project aims to establish sustainable tourism infrastructure, uplift local indigenous livelihoods, and safeguard rare thermal waters and surrounding biodiversity

The Royal Government of Cambodia, through the Ministry of Environment, is advancing plans to transform the “Te Teuk Pus” natural hot springs into a premier green relaxation destination in Kampong Speu province. Located within the Kodounti Community Protected Area in Trapeang Chour commune, Oral district, the eco-tourism development is designed to boost local community livelihoods, attract domestic and international visitors, and strengthen overall management of the protected area network.

Speaking during a consultative meeting with local community members, provincial authorities, and project stakeholders on August 7, 2026, Minister of Environment HE Eang Sophalleth emphasized that the initiative aims to fortify natural resource conservation while generating sustainable income for rural families. Following the success of the green relaxation destination model previously developed at Phnom Khnang Phsar, the Te Teuk Pus project builds on proven community-led eco-tourism strategies.

Under the development blueprint, the site will feature upgraded infrastructure including natural soaking pools, hot spring bathing areas, a visitor information center, a community market, accommodation units, rest zones, dedicated parking areas, and modern sanitation facilities. Landscape enhancements will incorporate extensive tree planting, ornamental gardens, and designated cultural and sacred worship sites. Technical teams have already completed land surveys, boundary demarcation, and green infrastructure planning for the development zone.

Te Teuk Pus holds a unique place in Cambodia’s natural landscape as home to the Kingdom’s only known natural hot spring system, with geothermal water temperatures ranging between 70°C and 100°C. Local residents, including the indigenous Suoy community, hold longstanding cultural beliefs that the mineral-rich waters possess therapeutic and healing properties. Beyond the thermal springs, the surrounding area encompasses sacred spirit forests (Arak forest), traditional places of worship, rich biodiversity, and wildlife habitats that will be conserved sustainably to maintain green canopy coverage for future generations.
