Myanmar Delegation Explores Investment Opportunities in Cambodia

In a significant move to strengthen economic ties, a 54-member delegation from Myanmar’s private sector arrived in Cambodia to explore potential investment opportunities across six key sectors. The delegation, led by Mr. Aik Htun, Director of the International Business Promotion Center, met with His Excellency Seang Thai, Secretary of State for Commerce, on July 29, 2025.

During their meeting, the Myanmar representatives conveyed their strong interest in investing in several sectors, including banking, healthcare, manufactured goods, metal furniture, textiles, and supermarkets. This dialogue highlights a growing interest in expanding bilateral trade and investment relations between the two Southeast Asian nations.

The Ministry of Commerce reported that the meeting was initiated at the request of the Myanmar delegation, which is keen to develop business partnerships in Cambodia. This focus on investment comes amidst Cambodia’s ongoing efforts to attract foreign capital into its economy.

Notably, at a recent press conference discussing the outcomes of tariff rate negotiations between Cambodia and the United States, His Excellency Sun Chanthol revealed that as of July 2025, Cambodia had granted approvals for 426 new investment projects. These projects are projected to create over 300,000 new jobs, with more than 90% of them concentrated in the industrial sector. Furthermore, Cambodia anticipates receiving over 500 new investment applications this year, indicating a robust and growing investment landscape.

As both nations look to enhance their economic collaboration, this visit by the Myanmar delegation could be a pivotal step toward fostering a stronger partnership and unlocking new opportunities for growth in the region.
