National Pediatric Hospital Breaks Ground on New $5.2 Million Surgical Facility

Supported by international humanitarian aid, the modern four-story building will modernize pediatric care and expand healthcare access by August 2027

The National Pediatric Hospital officially commenced construction on its new specialized pediatric surgery building on June 15, 2026. The groundbreaking ceremony was jointly presided over by HE Chheang Ra, the Minister of Health, alongside Tai MZ. Benjamin, the Asia Area President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This event marks a significant step forward in upgrading Cambodia’s specialized medical infrastructure for its youngest citizens.

During the ceremony, HE Chheang Ra explained that the construction of this dedicated surgical facility is made possible through the generous support and cooperation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He emphasized that the project helps solidify a vital national vision: creating a Cambodia where every child can receive safe, high-quality, and timely surgical care when they need it most. The minister further noted that working together to improve children’s health is ultimately an investment in safeguarding the long-term future of the country.

The upcoming modern facility will encompass a total floor area of 3,287 square meters, structured with a length of 29.9 meters, a width of 23.6 meters, and a total height of 20.4 meters. Rising four stories high, including the ground level, the project includes both structural development and the installation of critical medical equipment. Funded at an estimated cost of $5.2 million, construction is scheduled to conclude in August 2027 as part of a targeted initiative to enhance the hospital’s overall surgical capabilities.

Upon its completion, the new building is expected to drive further medical innovation within the public health sector, introducing cutting-edge equipment and enhanced treatment options. This development is strategically aimed at boosting pediatric health outcomes and elevating the standard of living and well-being for families across Cambodia.

Recently, through a grant from the Republic of Korea, the construction site of the Cambodia-Korea Friendship Building, the second building of the National Children’s Hospital, costing nearly $17 million, was also opened. (Read more)
