Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth presides over the construction ceremony for 97 rooms regional medical facility aimed at elevating healthcare infrastructure in Kandal province

Kandal: Expanding sub-national healthcare infrastructure and upgrading public medical services remain central to the Royal Government of Cambodia’s vision for sustainable socio-economic development. On September 8, 2026, the government, through the Ministry of Economy and Finance, officially broke ground on a modern four-story referral hospital building in Ponhea Lueu district, Kandal province. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Aun Pornmoniroth, who also serves as Chairman of the Royal Government Working Group for Kandal Province.

Designed to international medical standards, the new 30-meter by 50-meter structure comprises four levels—ground floor, first, second, third, and a terrace roof—housing a total of 97 functional rooms. The state-of-the-art facility will feature advanced infrastructure, including central HVAC climate control, automated fire safety systems, dedicated medical oxygen piping, patient elevators, security surveillance networks, and facility-wide Wi-Fi connectivity. Under the architectural layout, the ground level is dedicated to emergency intake, general consultations, NSSF services, a pharmacy, ultrasound and ICU units, X-ray suites, surgical operating rooms, and an integrated ambulance ramp. The first floor serves as a general inpatient department with 12 rooms accommodating 83 hospital beds, while the second floor is reserved for maternity and surgical wards. The third floor accommodates administrative operations, a 182-seat conference hall, and VIP recovery rooms. Most importantly, there is no official information regarding the construction cost, funding source, or awarding contractor.

During the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Aun Pornmoniroth highlighted that the decision to construct the expanded facility directly reflects the administration’s policy to strengthen local healthcare capacity and broaden public access to quality medical treatment. Kandal Provincial Governor Kouch Chamroeun echoed these sentiments, noting that the project stands as concrete evidence of the national leadership’s commitment to prioritizing public health and improving the quality of life for residents across Ponhea Lueu district and the broader province.
