Surge in Cambodia’s Online Business Registration Platform (OBRP) over the past 5 years

In a remarkable trend, Cambodia has witnessed a significant increase in its Online Business Registration Platform (OBRP) over the past five years. As of June 15, 2025, the number of registered businesses through the OBRP has soared to 46,776, with a total investment capital surpassing USD 18.23 billion.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, this robust growth reflects the increasing entrepreneurial spirit within the nation. Among the various sectors experiencing growth, five key business types have attracted the lion’s share of investment:

  1. Accommodation Services: With registered capital of approximately USD 1.56 billion, this sector has captured 8.54% of the total investment.
  2. Real Estate Activities: Utilizing owned or rented properties, this sector has garnered USD 1.46 billion in investment, accounting for 8.02%.
  3. Building Construction: This sector follows closely with a registered capital of USD 1.42 billion, representing 7.82% of total investments.
  4. Garment Manufacturing (Excluding Fur): Attracting USD 892 million, garment manufacturing constitutes 4.9% of the overall investments.
  5. Management Consulting Activities: This sector has drawn in USD 884 million, making up 4.85% of the investment landscape.

In addition to these prominent sectors, the Information Technology Center has reported various other registrations, accumulating a remarkable USD 12.01 billion, which constitutes 65.88% of the total registered capital.

The business landscape has also diversified, with several notable activity sectors showing high registration numbers:

– Restaurant Services & Mobile Food Supply: 4,130 companies, or 8.83% of total registrations.

– Specialized Wholesale: 2,672 companies, making up 5.71%.

– Wholesale of Household Goods: 2,336 companies, representing 4.99%.

– Retail Sales in Specialized Stores: 1,858 companies, or 3.97%.

– Building Construction: 1,837 companies, equivalent to 3.93%.

– Other Business Categories: A staggering 33,949 companies, accounting for 72.57% of total registrations.

The surge in registrations can be largely attributed to the successful launch of the Online Business Registration Platform (OBRP) on June 15, 2020. This system, operating as a single portal, streamlines the registration process by integrating commercial registration through the Ministry of Commerce, tax registration by the General Department of Taxation, and enterprise opening announcements by the Ministry of Labor and Vocational Training. An exciting expansion in mid-2023 further included registrations from the National Social Security Bureau.

Business owners have greatly benefited from this system, which significantly reduces bureaucratic procedures, minimizing processing times and certain service fees. If applicants provide accurate and complete information, they can expect to register their businesses within just eight working days.

As Cambodia continues to cultivate a thriving Online Business Registration Platform (OBRP) environment, the future holds promise for further growth and innovation in the sector. Stay tuned for more updates!
