Surge in Chinese Tourists Boosts Cambodia’s Tourism in 2025

In a remarkable rebound for its tourism sector, Cambodia welcomed over 53,000 visitors from China in the first seven months of 2025, reflecting a notable 21% increase compared to the same period in 2024. This significant milestone was highlighted by His Excellency Wang Wenbin, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Cambodia, in a Facebook post dated August 18, 2025.

According to the Apsara National Authority, July was particularly noteworthy, as Chinese nationals comprised the largest group of foreign tourists visiting the iconic Angkor Wat, with 5,720 tourists exploring the ancient temple complex.

Designated as the Cambodia-China Tourism Year, 2025 promises to be a pivotal year for tourism between the two nations, with expectations for continued growth in visitor numbers throughout the year.

The booming tourism has also translated into substantial revenue. The Angkor Foundation reported ticket sales revenue of nearly USD 30 million during the first seven months, benefiting iconic sites including Angkor, Koh Ker Temple, Beng Mea Temple, Kbal Spean Mountain, and boat services at Chong Khneas Port.

As Cambodia opens its doors wider to international travel, the surge in Chinese tourists is set to bolster the country’s economy and reaffirm its status as a premier travel destination in Southeast Asia. (Read more)
