Expansion on the Horizon: The Fourth Expressway to Propel Connectivity in Northeast Cambodia

During the signing ceremony of the framework agreement for the Phnom Penh-Siem Reap-Poipet Expressway, a monumental milestone in Cambodia’s infrastructure development, HE Sun Chanthol, Senior Minister and Minister of Public Works and Transport, unveiled the visionary plan of Cambodian government to construct the fourth expressway, extending from Phnom Penh to the provinces in the Northeast region.

This strategic undertaking comes in the wake of the ongoing construction of the second expressway and the comprehensive study for the third. The government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity across the nation was underscored during the event held on June 7, 2023. (Read more)

The Senior Minister emphasized the potential realization of a fourth expressway, envisioning a route that would traverse essential locations from Phnom Penh to Kratie, Snuol, Mondulkiri, Sen Monorom, Koh Nhek, Banlung, Stung Treng, O’Pong Moan, Preah Vihear, Siem Reap, and ultimately converge back in Phnom Penh.

This ambitious project aligns seamlessly with Cambodian government’s comprehensive plan for infrastructure expansion, building upon the successful inauguration of the Phnom Penh-Bavet Expressway, a transformative project worth 1.35 billion US dollars, which was officially launched on June 7, 2023, under the distinguished presence of Samdech Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of Cambodia, and HE Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia.
