Vietnamese Automaker Invests US$2 bn in EV Factory Construction in North Carolina, USA

Vinfast, a Vietnamese electric vehicle manufacturer under Vingroup, and a pioneer in electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing, held a groundbreaking ceremony for its North Carolina electric car plant on 28 July 2023. This achievement sets the stage for a transformative economic development project with an impressive $2 billion investment in the first phase of construction, sprawled across a sprawling 733-hectare site.

The North Carolina EV factory stands as a testament to Vingroup’s strategic vision, positioning Vinfast at the forefront of the global EV market while bolstering its brand identity in the United States. This momentous event marks North Carolina’s maiden foray into the electric car manufacturing domain, cementing its place as a trailblazer in sustainable mobility and green economy initiatives.

Commenting on this landmark occasion, Vietnamese Ambassador to the United States Nguyen Quoc Dzung remarked, “The timing of this special event coincides with the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, underscoring the remarkable growth of our bilateral ties over the past decade.”

Beyond reshaping the automotive landscape, the Vinfast EV factory embodies a holistic approach, aligning with North Carolina’s vision of a greener future and eco-conscious development. This transformative project is expected to foster a robust ecosystem of suppliers, fostering thousands of job opportunities for local communities in tune with the state’s sustainable growth trajectory.

The initial phase of the plant will witness the production of VF7, VF8, and VF9 electric vehicles, utilizing components sourced from suppliers in the United States, Vietnam, and other regions. Future expansion and scale-up plans will be tailored to meet the evolving needs of the global EV market, further solidifying Vinfast’s role as an industry trailblazer.
